How to sharpen and strop your skiving knife

How to sharpen and strop your skiving knife
I’m confused on the side the bevel is on. I easily would have thought the bevel for a lefty like me would have been on the left side. That way the flat is on the right and visible to the person using it and more accurately cutting to a line or against a straight edge.
Looks like great fun. Do you sell the aprons or just show people how to make things n such?
When you strop are you using just leather or do you put something on it.
Why is the work cropped out of frame so many times? It’s almost a tease strategy.
Nice knife :D , also the sheath is very nice. Thank you for the skill sharing!
What steel do you use in your tools. Rocky Mountain leather here in the states sells your tools and mentions that the steel is from Austria, but not what kind of steel it is.
I appreciate your videos.. I learnt alot. I made me first project out of leather. I used an old work boot, and made a scout carry knife sheath. I was trying to share a picture but it wouldn't let me.
What grit paper/belt do you use and in what order
Oh how I miss your content! It’s so good to see back even if it’s shorts.
Absolute shit result lol
Great teaching method & good sheath design. Thank you, for making a terrific vid!!!
For me, THIS whole thing isn't what I signed up for LOL. I got into knifemaking because I REALLY enjoy metal working, the whole feel of steel and the processes involved in making it from a raw material into a piece of functional art. I don't have the same passion for leather, but it IS without ANY doubt part of the whole 'skillset' needed. No one wants a knife without a sheath (Except kitchen knives), so it's something that I'm going to HAVE to learn, and learn to love. Excellent vid, thank You!
I found that after trying to make sheaths from kydex, I love leather working.
@@benneisam To be fair, I prefer making a sheath from leather instead of Kydex!
Great looking apron man I’ve made 2 leather and 1 canvas and bought upper class canvas one there worn out and trashed now I need to make another one of leather.
Perfect.
Well guess what I liked best about the video..... Your voice ... You have an old soul voice. Its really soothing.
Thank you for making this video I followed your instructions to make my first knife sheath and was happy with the results
Very cool, great job
Excellent!! Question;? Compounds ,5 , .03 . how thick is an average! Grren, white and brown?
May favorite is when you go “oof, that knife is razor sharp” almost like you surprised even yourself!
Terrick, I'm new to leatherwork and for the past month or so I've been completing a simple leather project every day. Today's project was this bifold. Thank you for the pattern. I really like it. Can I ask for your opinion on using Wickett & Craig English Bridle Leather (2.5-3oz (1.0-1.2mm)) for this project? Is there another veg tan leather that you like right now for wallet making?
I have only heard good reports on wickett & Craig English bridle leather but I have never worked with it myself. I love all veg tan leather so I don’t have preference to one in particular. Well done in making all your projects.
@@CHARTERMADE I ordered a panel of the W&C English Bridle, in addition to some CW Buttero and some Badalassi Carlo Vacchetta. So many great leathers to try. Thanks again!
Do you hollow grind blade for customers?
Absolute perfect saddle stitch teaching
Don't drop on toes!😂

@@CHARTERMADE Alright, i'm subbing
bro i dont know if you even see this comment please guide me on how to cut a thick and stiff raw leather like 5mm and its like a wood very hard to cut i dont know if i should use water to soft it i tried water kept it in the water all night and it just ruined my leather please make a video on cutting raw stiff heavy lleather if possible, if not then pleaase reply thanks and keep on uploading videos i like your channel very much and love you more then your channel i wish if you were my elder brother
How many millimeter is 8sbr preking iron? Thank you.
Oh how I have missed you! Hope everything is going well with you and yours.
Thank you Robert. We will have a catch video soon.
Beautiful
Stitching across a belt isn’t recommended as it weakens the leather. If you stitch parallel to the edge you can also stitch in the belt keeper. This is a quicker method but not strictly correct and the belt won’t last as long.
Beautiful work😊
We the leather craft students are missing the Master Artisan's classes for two years😥
Thank you for the encouraging messaging. We getting set up to start videos in our new workshop.
May i know why edge dyeing after Tokonole? I till now think dye won't penetrate into leather after Tokonole applying.
I need this machine how much price?
What is the exact model and make of the belt grinder you are using in this video? Thnx awesome sharpening vid.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Your work is beautiful. I appreciate your videos. Carolyna
end the end someone gives a good explenatin how to sharpen a knife. thanks.
All the instructors are great, but that first instructor with Sam in the pool is incredible! I’ve watched this twice now. Once a few weeks ago and again today are doing AIDA 1. I am hooked. Can’t wait for AIDA 2!! 🧜🏼♂️
very good explenation. Best I have seen till now. Keep on the good work.
👌👌👌
Good video, excellent explanation. now I understand. thank you.
Is there any way that I can get the dimensions of this Dopp Kit?
I struggle thread my needles for leatherwork :((
Terrick, please make another great video. Thanks Gary in Texas
Skiving with the bevel down makes for a better hand angle, and eliminates the hand to granite clearance issue. This is the reason good skive knifes have a wide bevel. I recommend learning with the bevel down.
@CHARTERMADE, where do you get leather of sufficient lengths for belt-making? What should one order? Thx
Your stitching looks poor quality.

Thanks for such a clear and concise video. Now I have a good idea of how to proceed with a project of my own. Nice knife and sheath btw.
very nice work !
